In the world of real estate, we operate as independent contractors. At first, this freedom seems like an incredible advantage—no boss, no fixed schedule, and the ability to build our own business. However, for many, this autonomy becomes a major obstacle to success. Without structure and accountability, it's easy to fall into patterns of inconsistency, which can ultimately lead to failure in the industry.
One of the key principles I emphasize to my agents is the practice of ending each day with a powerful question: Would you hire you?
This reflection forces you to think like a CEO and evaluate your daily performance. If you were your own employer, would you be satisfied with the work you did today? Would you pay yourself for the effort and results you delivered? If the answer is no, then it's time to make adjustments.
To help guide this reflection, consider asking yourself the following:
Did you prospect new business?
Did you follow up with current and potential clients?
Do you have efficient systems in place to streamline your business?
What kind of marketing efforts have you implemented for your business and listings?
Do you have an appreciation program in place for past and current clients?
Did you complete all necessary tasks to close any pending deals?
Do you have a clear plan for tomorrow and know what needs to be executed?
If you answered no to any of these questions, it’s a sign that you need to step up your game tomorrow.
Many agents struggle with knowing where to start. The answer is simple: a plan. Without a written plan and strategy, it’s easy to drift aimlessly through your days. Start by setting clear goals, outlining daily tasks, and creating accountability systems to track progress.
Real estate success doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of intentional, consistent effort. So, before you close your laptop today, take a moment to reflect: Would you hire you? If not, commit to doing better tomorrow. Because where you start is planning, but where you finish is success.
Here’s to a more productive and profitable real estate career!
